How much solder can I recover from my waste dross with the EVS, and is the recovered solder the same quality as in my solder pot?
Fifty to 80% pure solder by weight can be recovered. The recovered solder is exactly the same quality as in the solder pot. More than 2,000 assays by solder manufacturers, laboratories and hundreds of happy customers prove without doubt that the solder is the same. What you put in is what you get out because the EVS does not use any chemicals and additives, and uses a purely mechanical recovery system there is no degradation of the solder. Will I need extra staff/time to recover this valuable material?
None at all because the EVS is designed to save time and speed up the dedrossing process. It handles hot dross straight from the wave and because you do not have to squeeze or chop the dross, tests have shown you can save up to 85 percent on the downtime caused by dedrossing, freeing your staff for other duties.
Does dedrossing effect solder joints?
No. Tests have proven that regular dedrossing with the EVS will improve the cleanliness and efficiency of you wave solder process. This will give you better joints with less shorts and bridging, reducing rework, and giving more productivity to your process.
Will lead-free solder produce more dross, and is the dross the same?
Yes, lead-free solder produces 50 to 100 percent more dross because it is the tin that drosses not the lead. Moving from 63/37 tin lead to 95%+ tin at a higher temperature will significantly increase the dross formation. The good news is that the dross is the same or higher quality, and it is easy to recover the pure solder captured within the dross matrix. EVS will recover this in a 6- to 10-minute cycle time.
How does it fit in with ISO 14001 the Environmental Quality Standard?
Perfectly. The ISO Mantra is Recycle – Reduce – Reuse. With EVS you are performing all three. Conforming to ISO 14001 will help save precious resources and improve our environment. EVS is part of this process.
